Microsoft might feel lucky in US with its rumored promotion for Xbox, but in Germany it's almost a disaster on the horizon, if Motorola enforces the legal measures obtained through a federal court: Microsoft could be forced to recall and destroy its products, meaning Xbox and Windows 7 series.

Motorola Mobility has been granted an legal injunction against the distribution of key Microsoft products in Germany. The sales ban covers the Xbox 360 games console, Windows 7 system software, Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player. Ironically, it's about Microsoft's core, it's hardly to think of the old giant, without mentioning and using one of those features, so I wonder what in the world have those judges thought about?! It's true, German authorities acted with wisdom and objectivity in Youtube's case, but this time it seems that something has strongly influenced them against Microsoft.

The story of Motorola against Microsoft is quite an effervescent one. The German decision follows a ruling that Microsoft had infringed two patents necessary to offer H.264 video coding and playback. On the other hand, an US court has banned Motorola from enforcing the action until, it considers the matter next week.

This is just one of several cases involving about 50 intellectual properties that the smartphone producer has claimed Microsoft should have licensed. Microsoft has said that if it met all of Motorola's demands it would face an annual bill of $4bn (£2.5bn). Since the recent statement literally injures the company's global profit, Microsoft said it planned to appeal against the German ruling. The final verdict will be settled on May 7 and might be supervised by the European Commission, since there are some doubts that Motorola tries to force the line, in order to obtain a local monopoly in Germany.
